Power Transmission Tower

Technology of transmission tower (pylon). This is my own note due to studying about the technology of pylons.

ROWs in transmission tower

Written by faizul hadi on 9:01 AM

A "ROW" is a largely passive but critical component of a transmission line. It provides a safety margin between the high voltage lines and surrounding structures and vegetation. The ROW also provides a path for ground base inspections and access to transmission towers and other line components, if repairs are needed. Failure to maintain adequate ROW can result in dangerous situations, including ground faults.

A line seperation of at least one span (perhaps 700 spans) has proven effective in avoiding multicircuit outages. A seperation of 2000 feet from adjacent 500KV lines was planned for the Los Banos-Gates 500 KV line in California. This seperation requirement implies a substantially wider ROW than would be required for electrical protection and line maintenance.

Transmission towers and their overhead power lines are often considered to be a form of visual pollution. Methods to reduce the visual effect include undergrounding.
